History

Origins & Establishment
The Scottish Cultural Centre, located at 8886 Hudson Street in Vancouver, was officially opened in 1986. It was created by the United Scottish Cultural Society (USCS), an umbrella organization formed by several Scottish societies in the Lower Mainland who shared the vision of building a permanent home for Scottish culture in British Columbia.
The goal was clear: to establish a gathering place where the Scottish community could celebrate and preserve its traditions while also sharing them with the broader public. Fundraising drives, volunteer labour, and the collaboration of local Scottish organizations made the Centre a reality.

Community Celebrations

Annual Burns Suppers, ceilidhs, concerts, lectures, and exhibitions bring together both the Scottish community and the wider public. The Centre also plays a vital role in the planning and hosting of the BC Highland Games and Scottish Festival, one of the largest cultural festivals in the province.
With its large ballroom, stage, and kitchen facilities, the Centre has also become a popular venue for weddings, banquets, fundraisers, and multicultural events. In this way, the Centre both sustains Scottish traditions and serves as a bridge to Vancouver’s diverse communities.
